Fascinating article about how Li Datong, a Chinese editor, challenged the Chinese propaganda apparatus. We can only hope so see more of this over time.

Honda Ridgeline design videos

Diego Rodriguez of MetaCool points us to these excellent videos about the design of the Honda Ridgeline. I’m not a big fan of trucks, but I’ve got to admit that I’m amazed at how much thought went into every little detail of this vehicle.

Benford’s Law

Benford’s Law tells us that

“in listings, tables of statistics, etc., the digit 1 tends to occur with probability of roughly 30%, much greater than the expected 11.1% (i.e., one digit out of 9)”.

This can be useful in detecting whether a dataset has been tampered with. Kottke applies this to tampering with blog timestamps.
